Overview

The RaQ 3i includes a full suite of Internet services in a single rack unit (1U) enclosure. Preconfigured with the Apache Webserver, Sendmail, the Linux operating system, and FrontPage server extensions, Sun RaQ server appliances provide Web publishing, email and file transfer services at a fraction of the cost of traditional UNIX, Windows NT, or even DIY alternatives.

A graphical user interface simplifies server management so that you can look after the GNU/Linux operating system and applications without sacrificing control. This idea proved such a success that Sun Microsystems acquired the manufacturer.

It does not require the constant attention of expensive IT engineers. This attribute is the reason for its popularity - 33% of all the global Tier 2 and Tier 3 service providers use it.

Details

Low Cost Hosting

The low cost of ownership results not only from an attractive price, but also from the ease of setup, remote administration, and pre-installed software.

Ease of Use

The application and system functions are integrated into a graphical user interface. This mechanism safeguards users from the powerful and reliable GNU/Linux multitasking operating system and vice versa.

This software layer enables installation in 15 minutes, so that you can respond quickly to new customers while they are still on the phone.

Browser Based Administration

For simplicity, all administration and maintenance is browser based, minimising the need for trained staff.

Maintenance agents detect potential problems, giving the administrator time to take remedial action, minimising the need for ongoing system management and support, all of which greatly reduce lifetime cost of ownership.

Customers can manage their site(s) themselves, which further reduces administration support costs.

Web Hosting

Because of its simplicity and low cost, the RaQ 3i provides ISPs with several alternatives for Web hosting:

High Server Density

The RaQ is designed for use in the extremely space conscious environment of the service provider's data centre. Forty can be installed in a standard equipment rack, or up to 80 when mounted on both sides. They can be clustered for performance and up to one hundred RaQs can be managed from a central, browser based console.

It operates at less than 40 Watts; even in tight quarters, eliminating special cooling needs.

Price

This particular model (R39 HJ4 GIU) cost £3290. It is fifteen months old, in immaculate condition.
